RE: exit 31 rv park, Grand Rivers, Ky

I thought I knew all the campgrounds in this area, but that one is new to me. Have you considered COE's Canal Campground that's also just off I-24 between the lakes? Eureka CG is another great COE in that area, but more difficult to get to.

RE: Something sneaky on Reserve America

1.50 would be better than the 7.50 I was charged!!

RE: Something sneaky on Reserve America

This was NOT for a subscription - it was listed as "reservation fee"

RE: Something sneaky on Reserve America

Thanks for the warning Horseplay since we'll be staying in a KY state campground this weekend. I was mad enough to see the $7.50 on the last reservation I made, so I'm really going to be ****** to have to pay it again!! It's for sure I'll be making no more reservations through them!

RE: Planning a trip to Grand Canyon and Utah Parks!!

Just be prepared for any kind of weather!! We loved being at Trailer Village mid-May - but it was kind of a shock to wake up to 6" of snow!! (It made the canyon even more beautiful though!)

RE: Best route to Cape Cod

I hate to ask - but can someone explain a "rotary"??

RE: LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES???????

We stayed at Eureka CG one night this week - I've decided it's as great as Canal! It's another COE campground, smaller than Canal, with hook-ups, and most sites on water. It's NOT easy to find (we had no problem, since DH is so familiar with that area, but I would have had to call for directions!) 26 Canadian geese joined us for breakfast.

RE: Seven Points COE - Nashville pictures

Thanks so much!! With gas prices as they are, it's great to know I can visit a place like that so close to home. Loved the pics that will make it easy to pick out a campsite.

RE: LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES???????

By the way, you are MUCH more likely to see the elk and bison if you go early morning or early evening. They're like us - they prefer a cool place during the heat of the day - and there aren't too many of those"cool places" that you can view from the road through the prairie.

RE: LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES???????

Head down "the Trace" which is the only road that goes North/South between the lakes. Visit the Nature Center, (a few miles east of the trace), the Elk and Bison Prairie, the LBL Visitors Center,(both right on the trace) and then on down to TN (about 10 mile further) to the Homeplace 1850. That will definitely fill up a long day! You may want to head down the side roads of the trace on the roads that were flooded out when the lakes were built - many say "road ends in water". Great picnic sites all along the way. You may want to check out www.lbl.org to see what is going on while you are there. There are some great programs at both the nature center and the Homeplace. I LOVE the Canal campground, and still hoping to get back there this year. If you want to dine out from there, be sure to check out Patti's - home of famous thick pork chops and mile-high pie! Have a great trip! And don't hesitate to contact me if I can help you any further.

RE: Good Sam Trip maker CHANGED

Glad to hearthe original version is back! I was in the same mood as helperzack thinking it wasn't worth renewing my membership. Hopefully now they will once again recognize my sign-in name? This was my favorite mapping site until they decided to change things, so in the last week I've learned to use Mapquest! And have you tried contacting them about their changes?? IGNORED!!

RE: Carlsbad road information

I agree with the previous poster - we really liked the Carlsbad RV Park. Great people, and lots of little things like a rose garden to brighten your day. We had a fantastic potluck supper there, too.

RE: Just Got Back From Denali....the cheater's way

We did the Vancouver/Whittier cruise last year then shuttled to Anchorage to rent an RV for 2 weeks! Now THAT is the way to go!! Let me revise that to "the way to go the first time to get a taste". Although we loved the cruise part, the RV part was even better! Now we can look forward to the day that gas prices go down enough to do the drive up there! (OK, I can dream about gas prices going down, can't I?)

RE: I-255/I-270 Around St. Louis

We take this route regularly since my brother lives west of St. Louis just off I-44 - it's definitely better than any other route - but try very hard to not hit it during rush hour!!

RE: Carlsbad, NM

We just returned from two weeks in NM/AZ, and our favorite campground of the whole trip was the Carlsbad RV Park. As someone has already mentioned, it's much closer to activities than the KOA, and the people there are sooo friendly! We had a Mexican potluck one night, and another night was a wiener roast. The day we left they were having movie night. Lots of extras in the park - miniature horses and other critters, and a beautiful rose garden.

RE: Hwy 453 Kentucky?

I agree with the previous poster - and will also add Canal campground (COE) at the north end of the lakes (just off I-24) as a great place to stay.

RE: I-40 going west

Most of I-40 was ok, but there were several parts (mainly close to OKC) that were like being in a 15 minute long earthquake!!

RE: Kentucky Lake - Suggestions

We camp more at nearby Lake Barkley, but we love Canal Campground near Grand Rivers. (COE) Lots of sites on the water there. If you can live with a primitive site, just head down the trace between KY Lake and Lake Barkley and you can find lots of gems!

RE: Cottonwood, AZ ?

Do they take reservations yet?? Arriving on a Friday I was worried about getting a spot there.
